So we can be healthier and more energetic, we decide to get fit, eat right, work out … all of it. Then, just as we're getting started, trying to find out what to do, people throw out technical terms we do not understand. Words like aerobic and anaerobic confuse us and make us feel like we're not smart enough to be healthy. If I've just described you, this article will tell you what the words mean and why, in most cases, they do not matter.
What Is Aerobic Exercise? Aerobic means 'with air'. When a workout routine is aerobic, your body can replenish the needed oxygen (air) to the muscles being exercised. Aerobic exercise is good for heart, lungs, immunity, lower blood pressure, cellular health and helps prevent or control major diseases (like diabetes, cancer, atherosclerosis, asthma, emphysema, sciatica, constipation, etc).
Aerobic exercise is the easiest and the most beneficial. If you feel you need to choose between anaerobic and aerobic exercise, choose aerobic. It's as simple and inexpensive as taking a fast walk 3-5 days per week. Other types of aerobic workouts include swimming, jogging, stationary bike riding, rowing, aerobic dancing (jazzercise), and lifting light weights, quickly. In order to get the full aerobic value, the activity should be sustained for 30 minutes total. Imagine that … 2-3 hours per week could add as much as 15 healthy years to your life and make the other years much healthier and productive.
What Is Anaerobic Exercise? Anaerobic means the workout is so strenuous it uses oxygen faster than your body can replenish it. An anaerobic workout is any program that is very strenuous, lifting heavy weights, for example. Other anaerobic exercises include sprinting, climbing, long jump, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, leg lifts, squat thrusts, etc. Anaerobic workouts build muscle and are needed so you can perform heavy jobs, like lifting things, running away from danger, take a steep hike, etc. It also helps with the symptoms of some diseases (like arthritis and osteoporosis). Some people use it to get that rugged, buff look, but I'm jealous of them.
Aerobic And Anaerobic Exercise Equipment: Aerobic equipment comes in all shapes, sizes and price ranges, the cheapest and easiest is a pair of walking or cross-training shoes for your aerobic walk. Some of the mid-range fitness equipment includes stationary bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, stair-steppers, etc. You can get really expensive, with electronically assisted equipment that simulates uphill climbs and monitors your blood pressure, heart rate, calories burned, along with charting your entire routine and uploading to computer. For me, I'll take the walks!
There are many types of anaerobic exercise equipment on the market at all price ranges. Some examples are dumb bells, free weights, home gyms, thigh and abdominal workout equipment. If you're on a really tight budget, you can buy bungee cords or medical tubing and make your own anaerobic exercise equipment. Frankly, you could use a stick attached to 2, 2-liter bottles of water for various weight lifting workouts.

If you’re looking or that quiet getaway on the Central California coast, consider Avila Beach, an idyllic little stretch of sand with comfortable accommodations nearby. Not that children would be unwelcome – Avila is a playground for all ages. But the new Avila Village Inn has now brought this destination up a notch or two for those seeking a special romantic beach getaway. The inn has pulled out all the stops to attract couples who want to pamper themselves as much as enjoy the natural beauties of the Central California coastline. About seven miles north of Pismo Beach the sign directs Highway 101 travelers to Avila Beach by way of a winding road that follows San Luis Creek down into a wooded ravine. About a mile before you get to the beach is Avila Village, a new development with condos, a few shops and, adjacent to the creek, the Avila Village Inn. While not actually on the beach, the inn’s wooded setting gives the property a quiet, reclusive feel. The developers of the hotel use the word “refined” to describe the many details and amenities that have been built into the 30 guest rooms. And our impression was that, indeed, this is one of those inns where you enjoy tasting the luxurious accommodations as much as experiencing the beach and other natural surroundings. This property has incorporated many of the design features now seen in newer upscale homes. Wet bars, granite countertops and fireplaces are in each room, while marble is used extensively throughout the shower and bathroom area. The pillow-top king beds both look and feel comfortable with down pillows, blankets and duvets. We especially enjoyed the 103-degree private spa waiting for us on our creekside balcony. If you’re so inclined, each room or suite has its own DVD player and guests are encouraged to check out free DVDs from the front desk. Those who are a little more active will welcome the fitness center that is just across the parking lot from the inn – perfect for working off those snacks, pastries and treats that are provided guests in both a welcoming basket and a breakfast basket the next day. Other details like tasteful art, mission-style furniture and a grand, sweeping staircase in the lobby area all add up to a sense of privilege – which, of course, is what it’s all about when you spend significant money to enjoy quality time with your loved one. A couple of minutes down the road from the inn is Avila Beach, a half-mile long beach area that is growing in popularity because of its more exclusive, almost Mediterranean feel. A few older hotels are situated near the beach, adjacent to some shops that are sprinkled throughout the tiny “downtown” area. There is evidence of new construction that we hear was made necessary from some oil leaks in the area; but the beach itself and the businesses along the beach seem unaffected. Avila Beach has three piers, including two that are … Read More
When many of people think of weight lifting or weight training they think of big muscular men lifting heavy free weights. But this is not the only way to build muscle, in fact this is not the way many average people would feel comfortable lifting weights.
Benefits Of Resistance Training
Resistance training or strength training is an incredibly beneficial type of exercise to add to your routine for a few reasons. It helps you stay in shape by strengthening your muscles and keeping them flexible. This strengthening can help you avoid injury as it helps provide additional support for your joints. Not only that but the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn even during times of rest. Some studies have also shown it can help keep your bones stronger as you age because resistance training exercises can help you slow a decrease in bone density that often happens as we age. In general it will help you look and feel better both now and as you get older.
Building Muscle With Light vs Heavy Weights
You can actually build muscle with either light weights or heavy weights. The key is not necessarily in the size of the weight, which seems to be more important is lifting to the point of fatigue. If you are using lighter weights you will need to do more repetitions (reps) to get the same benefit, however for some people this may be a safer or more comfortable way to go. Strength training that uses a higher number of reps using a lighter weight can help stimulate muscle cells so they build more tissue.
Start Slow And Build Your Way Up
If you are just starting a training training program it is important to start slow, especially if you have not been regularly exercising. Divorcing in too fast when your body is not ready for it creates a greater risk of injury which can quickly derail your exercise plans. As your body gets stronger you can start increasing the reps and the weight. Talk to your doctor and possibly a trainer about developing the best workout routine for your needs before getting started. … Read More
Different fitness clubs offer diverse services to consumers depending on their needs ranging from dancing classes, to swimming exercises, to classical gym membership, and even to participation in various sports activities. We know that they only think of what is best for us but being consumers; we have the upper hand in choosing the best workout programs for us. For one, we are the ones who know our body well: we are familiar with its strengths, its limits, and even its suitable level of activity. The trainers are not going to be the ones to hurdle the hardships of workout but us. The least we could do is make the most out of it and make sure that every drill, trainings or movements we yield ourselves into are enjoyable, less straining and overall, an experience worth the while.
Still, the frustration of having to go through different programs in the past and yet not getting the results we want can be a yoke. It dampens our spirits and lessens out motivation to go on and maintain the active lifestyle we should have. However, we must not forget that with every decision we make comes possibilities of success or failures. Let the brighter side overpower the seemingly challenging letdown. The more exercise routines we involve ourselves into, the more we familiarize our body. In turn, the more we know our body, the greater is the possibility that the next regimen would be perfect for us.
There is no assurance that one will enjoy exercising as much as everybody else enjoys fast food or eat-all-you-can meal choices. Of course, no one would be happy to pay for something we know for sure would only be painful or tiresome in the end. However, let us not let something negative but bearable blind us from the future benefits exercise has to offer. It is the perfect means of lowering your blood sugar, maintaining a normal blood pressure, improving your body’s circulation and in general, leading a life where worries of getting sick are as remote as a far flung island.
Let us put our heart and soul into what we do. True, it is boring, tedious and oftentimes dull. However, let us exercise thinking not of the possible weariness in the end but of the enormous advantages in the future. Get past the pessimism and welcome optimism with open arms. You do not only extend your life when you work out, you also afford yourself a chance to spend a lot more time with your family, your loved ones, your friends and everybody else that is important to you.
Switch to the healthy lifestyle now! You can do simple jog, a walk in the park or exercise in the gym!… Read More
